General Information

System Requirements for Intel AMT
Intel AMT requires the platform to have an Intel® AMT-enabled chipset, network hardware and software. The platform must also be connected to a power source and an active LAN port.

Desktop Board (Executive Series):

  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ57TM
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ45EK
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ45CB
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ35MP
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ35JO
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ965WC
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ965GF
  • Intel® Desktop Board DQ965CO
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GTP (D945GTPLKR SKU only; D945GTPLR and D945GTPL do not support Intel® AMT)
  • Intel® Desktop Board D945GCZ (D945GCZLKR SKU only; D945GCZLR and D945GCZL do not support Intel® AMT)

Client System:
The client system must be a computer with Intel® PRO Network Connections that includes Intel Active Management Technology. The operating system loaded on the client system does not matter.

Console System:
The console system (i.e., the system used to access the Intel AMT client system) must have one of the following Web browsers installed:

  • Microsoft* Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or newer
  • Netscape* Navigator 7.1 or newer
  • Mozilla* Firefox* 1.0 or newer
  • Mozilla Mozilla* 1.7 or newer

Where to Find the Latest Intel AMT Drivers

You can download the most current Intel AMT drivers for your Intel® Desktop Board from Intel's Download Center.

Accessing Client Systems
The software installed with the Intel AMT drivers includes a built-in Intel AMT Web client only.

Advanced features of Intel AMT are available from software vendors that support these new management technologies. Please see Intel AMT home for more information and a list of software vendors that support Intel AMT.

Serial Over LAN (SOL) and IDE Redirect (IDE-R)
In an Intel AMT-enabled system, remote, or out-of-band (OOB), management is enabled via two technologies. Keyboard and text redirection is called serial over local area network (Serial Over LAN, or SOL). Full CD and/or floppy redirection is called integrated device electronics (IDE) redirection (IDE-R).

Both redirection technologies let technicians at the help desk remotely run management utilities and fix a range of problems over the wire. Coupled with Intel AMT alerting features, serial over LAN and IDE redirection can produce significant savings in downtime caused by platform problems that currently require desk-side or depot repairs.

Automating Intel AMT Configuration
You can use a software package like LANDesk* that uses Enterprise Provisioning mode to automate the configuration of Intel AMT. Since that is only a function of the software, they will need to pick a software package that allows for USB TLS key generation and remote discovery of AMT systems.

Troubleshooting

WHQL Test Fails at Intel Active Management SOL – (COM3)
Intel® Desktop Boards that support iAMT may fail certain WHQL tests with an error at ‘Intel Active Management SOL – (COM3).

To successfully pass the WHQL tests, make sure you have a serial loopback cable connected to COM1 (some 965 boards have a COM1 pinout – you need to attach a dongle). When prompted that you don’t have COM3 loopback attached, select "Ignore".

BIOS Updates Fail on Boards that Support Intel AMT
If you have provisioned a desktop board for use with Intel AMT, the only method of updating the BIOS from a version earlier than 4651 to 4651 or newer is the Recovery BIOS update method. Flash updates will only work if you first un-provision the system. For additional information, refer to BIOS updates may fail on Intel® AMT systems.

Problem Reverting to an Earlier BIOS Version
BIOS version 5585 for Intel® Desktop Boards DQ965WC, DQ965GF and DQ965CO adds enhancements to Intel® Active Management Technology. If you have updated your system to BIOS version 5585 or later, the only way to ‘back-rev’ to a BIOS earlier than 5585 is through the BIOS Recovery method. Details on performing a BIOS Recovery are found at http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-023360.htm.
